Funeral services for Harriet V. Claypool will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 17, 2017 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N 21st Street, Newark with Pastor Betsy Williams presiding. Interment will follow at Wilson Cemetery. The family will receive friends and acquaintances 6-8 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Claypool, age 93, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at her Newark home. She was born February 7, 1924 in Newark to parents Preston and Lois (Wolfe) Finney. She was a 1942 graduate of Newark High School. She married Wayne R. Claypool on November the 9, 1949 the anniversary date of both her parents and parents-in-law. Harriet worked at the former Ohio Power Company in the billing department and after retirement attended many reunions with fellow employees.
Mrs. Claypool was an accomplished pianist and organist. She shared her God-given gift of music as pianist, organist and choir director with the congregation at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Vanatta, OH for over forty years. She played for countless weddings and funerals. After becoming a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran, Newark she served as a substitute chapel organist, a member of the Covenant Choir and accompanied the children’s Kinderchor. She accompanied many high school and middle school students at solo and ensemble competitions. Together with her husband, they were members of the Ohio Farm Bureau. Harriet was an avid gardener and family photographer who also loved taking pictures of the flowers she grew. She was a gifted seamstress.
Harriet is survived by her adult children Cheryl (Doug) Fulton of Newark, Dennis Claypool of Newark, David Claypool of Laramie, WY, and Lois Eads of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, sister Connie Stoneburner of Newark, as well many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, husband Wayne Claypool (2004) and her brother Harlan “Bud” Finney (2015) preceded Harriet in death.
Harriet’s family sends a special “Thank You” to Hospice of Central Ohio; FirstLight Home Care; Charles Geiger M.D., Bobbie Turner R.N. and the staff at Cherry Westgate Family Medical Practice and to Sarah Hook of Palliative Care of Central Ohio.
