Helen graduated from John Hay High School where she was a cheerleader for 3 years and best known to her classmates as “pickles.” She was a long time member of Heath United Methodist Church where she formerly sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and belonged to the United Methodist Women’s Society.
Her family owned the Utica Cycle Shop, changing the name to Harry’s Cycle Center, and then to Jeff’s Motorcyle Speciality, as it passed to the next generation. She was a swim instructor for the first group of Red Cross instructors at the Newark pool and throughout greater Licking County. Helen was the past president of the Garden Clubs in Heath and Utica. In her free time, she volunteered at the Davis Shai House; played on a bowling league; was a former Brownies, Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader; and member of the Deux Come class. Helen was an avid bridge player and never missed an opportunity to play a game.
Helen is survived by her children, Jeffrey Gough of Heath, Mary Ann (Fred) Miller of St. Petersburg, FL, Jane (Steven) Watts of Newark, and Bonny (Jamie) Hall of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Scott, Greg, Jill, Brad, and Andrea; 10 great grandchildren; her sister, Frances Gutta and was a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews, with whom she so enjoyed sending cards and greetings over the years.
In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Gough; brother, Ralph Janicki; and sisters, Henrietta Holtz, and Christine Steiger.
