Betty L. Mansfield of Newark, OH, January 29, 1929 – October 9, 2018

A graveside service for Betty L. Mansfield, age 89, of Newark, will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Wilson Cemetery, with Chaplain Michael Reynolds officiating.

Mrs. Mansfield passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Arlington Care Center surrounded by her family. She was born January 29, 1929 in Renick, WV to the late George W. and Bessie M. (Thomas) Jenkins.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Brewer of Heath; three grandchildren, Marcy Gingerich of Columbus, Mindy Hansel of Heath, and Miki (Justin) McLaughlin of Newark; twelve great grandchildren, Trista, Kiernan, and Tatum Gingerich, Elijah Goines, Isaiah Young, Ashlyn, Aubryn, and Evin Day, Jacob Connolly, Shayni (Dylan) Wethey, and Logan and Caeden McLaughlin;  three great great grandchildren, Lincoln and Ellie Wethey, and Kingsley Gingerich; and friend, Joe Broshart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Mansfield; first husband, Aubra L. Sherman, and sisters, Opal and Hazel; brothers, Clyde, Clay, Claude, Cecil, Columbus, Raymond and Ralph Jenkins; son-in-law, Randy Brewer.

Patricia Ann Smith of Vero Beach, FL, August 30, 1926 – October 7, 2018

Patricia A. Smith passed away on October 7, 2018 in Vero Beach, Florida.

Born Aug. 1926 to Freda P. (Wright) and Kenneth M. Riley in McConnelsville, Morgan Co, Ohio.

Patty graduated from Malta-McConnelsville High School in 1944. Attended Miami University. Married Don E. Smith, a high school classmate in 1945. Three children Michael (Janet), Marcia Denmead, Mollie Spriggs (Andrew). Seven grandchildren: Erin Harwood (Timothy), Jennifer McKinnell (Paul), David Smith (Julianne), Derek Denmead (Jackie), Tyler Denmead (Kate), Katie Spriggs and Abigail Spriggs. Nine great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were husband, Don E. Smith 1997 and daughter, Marcia L. Denmead in 2004.

She was a member of Neal Ave. Methodist Church of Newark, Ohio. Pi Beta Phi Sorority and a volunteer of Newark City Schools. Retired in 1988 from the Licking County Dept. of Human Services.

The family will hold a graveside service at Cedar Hill Cemetery on Oct. 18th at 11:00 AM. Friends are welcome.

Carlos “Charlie” Efrian Colon Sr. of Newark, Ohio, October 1, 1937 – October 7, 2018

Carlos Efrian “Charlie” Colon Sr., 81, of Newark, died Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Altercare North. He was born October 1, 1937 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to the late Rosendo and Hilaria (Ojeda Ayala) Colon.

Charlie retired from Denison University in 2013. He was a past Commissioner and Treasurer of the Norwalk, CT Housing Authority. He also worked as a police officer in Norwalk, CT and an electrician. He was active in city politics and enjoyed wood working and collecting miniature train sets.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Barbara; six children, Melody (Todd) Valencia of Tunnel Hill, GA, Patricia (Gregory) Sedia of RSM, CA, Mary (Bruce Bomely) Colon of Newtown, CT, Elizabeth (Lester) Wilson of Wurtsboro, NY, Charles (Cheryl) Colon Jr. of Rehoboth, MA, and David Colon of Carlsbad, CA; step son, Gregory (Kris) Stalling of Heath, OH; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Magdalena Colon and Nuveldy Colon both of Indiana; and one brother, Angelo Colon of Las Vegas, NV.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Carol Iannacone Colon; and brother, Uriel Colon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, P.O. Box 430, Newark, OH 43058.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 PM at the Brucker- Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N 21st St. Newark. Funeral services and burial will take place in Norwalk, CT.
