Mitzie Louise Smith of Newark, OH, November 19, 1963 – May 31, 2019

Mitzie Louise Smith, age 55, of Newark, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019 at her home, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on November 19, 1963 to Donald and Amy (nee Hottinger) Smith.

A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Brucker Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st Street, Newark, OH 43055. Family will greet friends from 1-3pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mitzie was a long-time member of Christian Life Center and was strong in her faith. In her free time, she enjoyed riding Harleys, playing pool, and being a rebel raiser. She was a good friend to everyone she met and will be sorely missed.

Mitzie is survived by her mother; children, Benjamin Haynes III, Hallie (Ryan Marchman) Clapper, and Johnna (CJ Synder) Clapper; several grandchildren; siblings, Carl Smith, Laura Kelley, Mary Woody; and best friend of 50+ years, Ronda Freeman.

Mitzie is preceded in death by her father, daughter, Jamie Haynes, and two husbands, Benjamin F. Haynes II and Joseph K. Bailey.

Joanne Helen Westbrook of Newark, OH, December 4, 1946 – May 31, 2019

Joanne Helen Westbrook, 72, of Newark, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born December 4, 1946 to the late John and Helen (Fuhrmann) Verlinden in Mt. Clemens, MI.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark. Family will greet friends from 4-7pm on Friday, June 7, 2019 at the funeral home. Joanne will be laid to rest at Wilson Cemetery following the service.

Joanne graduated from Algonac H.S. in Fairhaven, MI where she was a majorette for several years. After moving to Ohio she spent her free time fishing, camping, and waterskiing with her family. She had a love for the outdoors. She was a former Girl Scout leader in Johnstown, 3 time elected member for the Democratic Central Committee, Second Chair on Democratic Committee, and President of Women’s Democratic Party. She owned and operated Errand Express for 14 years and was awarded the lifetime membership of Continental Who’s Who.

Joanne loved to travel, especially to Mexico and Paris and celebrated her 30th wedding anniversary with a dinner in the Eiffel Tower.

Joanne was dedicated to her family and friends and was known for her generosity. She will be profoundly missed by all whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Richard Westbrook; daughter, Theresa (Lance) Senn; step children, Steve (Connie) Westbrook, Lori (Scott) Wiley, John (Liz) Westbrook and Mike Westbrook; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and special friends, Kim, Dan, and Thor Fox; and five nieces and nephews from Georgia; Barb, Janice, Randy, Kenny, and Alan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Verlinden.

Trudy A. Luckeydoo of Newark, Ohio, November 11, 1952 – May 31, 2019

A funeral service for Trudy A. Luckeydoo, 66, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Lt. Kaitlyn Haddix officiating.  Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.  Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark.

Trudy passed away May 31, 2019, at the Selma Markowitz Hospice Care Center.  She was born November 11, 1952, in Columbus, to the late Alfred and Viola (Dreshel) Darst. 

Trudy retired from Kroger.  She volunteered with the NHS Marching Band, past involvement with the Salvation Army, and an avid fan/volunteer with Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps.

She is survived by her sons, Ron (Crystal) Luckeydoo of Newark and Mark (Kim) Luckeydoo of Grove City; daughter, Amanda (Tim) Autherson of Newark; brother, Mark (Brenda) Darst of Corning; sisters, Janet (David) Sher and Norma (Cedric) Emery both of CA; grandchildren, Shelby, Logan, Kyla, and Julianna; several nieces and nephews, and extended family, Ashley (C.J.) Michaleski, Drew Brookover, and Maddux Michaleski.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. “Duck” Luckeydoo and her bonus mother, Garnet Darst.

Margaret I. Blanchette of Newark, August 2, 1920 – May 25, 2019

Margaret I. Blanchette, 98, of Newark, died Saturday, May 25, 2019 at The Inn at Sharonbrooke. She was born August 2, 1920 in Akron to the late Anton and Paula Yakim.

She is survived by two sons, Daniel Blanchette (Sue) of Palmetto, FL and Richard Blanchette (Kari) of Lompoc, CA; three grandchildren, Paul Lei, Spencer (Valerie) Blanchette and Courtney Blanchette; and one sister, Lillian Benko.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Blanchette (1992); and two brothers, Alex and George Yakim.

Brandon Lee Smith of Newark, July 10, 1974 – May 24, 2019

Brandon Lee Smith, 44, of Newark, died Friday, May 24, 2019 at his home. He was born July 10, 1974 in Newark to Parley Harrison and Carolyn Ann (Crain) Smith.

Brandon was an avid concert goer. He enjoyed listening to music, working in his vegetable garden and was known to be a great cook. He loved to play with and be around his dogs.

He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Ann Smith; brother, Daniel Smith; two sisters, Teresa Keck and Christa Magers; several nieces nephews and cousins; and his best friend, Andrew Downing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harrison Smith.

Beverly Sue Marriott of Newark, Ohio, June 13, 1943 – May 23, 2019

A Celebration of Life Service for Beverly Sue Marriott will be held at 11am, on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the First Baptist Church, 525 S. 30th Street, in Heath, Ohio. Pastor David Hallenbeck and Pastor Dave Welsch will officiate. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may call from 5pm-8pm, on Tuesday, at the Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st Street in Newark, Ohio.
Mrs. Marriott, 75, of Newark, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born June 13, 1943, in Mount Vernon, a daughter of the late Lawrence W. and Mary Drumm. She had retired from Universal Veneer and an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. A woman of faith, she was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Heath, where she was active in small group ministry with her husband.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband William L. Marriott, Sr., whom she married May 30, 1963; children, William L. (Lori) Marriott, Jr., Tina (Scott) McLaughlin, Tammy McGaughy (Patrick McGaughy); her grandchildren, Travis and Kassie Smith, Brandon and Sarah McLaughlin, Emily and Christopher McGaughy; great-grandchildren, Caleb Clark, Maddux Washington, Emma Smith; her brother Tom (Midge) Drumm; several nieces and nephews, including special niece Donna (Dave) Borland; her beloved dog Muffin; very special friends-Linda and Martin Bauer, Dick and Linda Woodyard, David and Virginia Hallenbeck, Russ and Joyce Boren, Dorothy and Jim Sloan, Ron and Sharon Sines, Keith and Bev Bridges, Peggy Prater, Peggy Hall, the JOY Connect group and her entire First Baptist Church family.

Ted Roberts of Newark, OH, November 27, 1939 – May 19, 2019

A funeral service for Ted Roberts, 79, of Newark, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with James Mills officiating.  Burial will follow in Wilson cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.  Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark.

Ted passed away May 19, 2019, at Licking Memorial Hospital.  He was born November 27, 1939, in Ashland, KY, to the late Theodore Roberts, Sr., and Juanita (Barney) Roberts.

Ted retired from Matlack.  He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.  He was a member of Baltimore Church of Christ, where he was a song leader.  Ted enjoyed traveling, gardening, fishing, camping, and loved OSU football and March Madness.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Jo (Crawford) Roberts; children, Rhonda “Susie Q” (Brent) Lange of Howard, David Roberts of Marysville, and Scott Roberts of Newark; grandchildren, Heather (Rodney) Bostic, Melissa (Ken) Ristau, Tyler (Courtney) Lange, Aislinn (Matt) Sayers, Reagan Roberts, Reed Roberts, and Landon Roberts, and eleven great-grandchildren.

Billy McPeek of Newark, OH, March 17, 1980 – May 18, 2019

Billy McPeek, age 39, of Newark, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 18, 2019. He was born on March 17, 1980 to Kim Legge and David McPeek in Newark, OH.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Brucker Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st Street, Newark, OH 43055. Billy will be laid to rest at Wilson Cemetery and services will be officiated by Pastor Steven Hughes. Family will greet friends from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the funeral home.

Billy was an avid Cleveland Browns, Buckeyes, and Nascar fan. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and listening to music.

Billy is survived by his loving wife of 6 years, Jessica (nee Tate) McPeek. He also leaves behind a son, Conner Henderson; parents, Kim Legge and David (Lisa) McPeek; siblings, Brian Bowen and Ashley McPeek; paternal grandmother, Verna McPeek; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Tate; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his dog, Shooter.

Billy is preceded in death by his brother, DJ McPeek; maternal grandparents, Audrey and John Legge; and father-in-law, Rick Tate.

Donna “Susie” (Andrews) Brooks, 68, of Newark, died Saturday, May 18, 2019 at OSU Medical Center. She was born July 7, 1950 in Columbus to the late Arthur and Ruth (Brown) Welch.

Donna worked as teacher in the Newark City Schools. She enjoyed putting together puzzles and spending time with her dogs, Bob and Harley.

She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Edwin Charles Brooks; daughter, Laurie Andrews of Canal Winchester; son, Daniel Andrews of Florence, KY; two step daughters, Staci Loudner and Stefanie Brooks; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; four sisters, Zona Edgerly, Frances Walz, Janet Lester, and Paula Hunt; and best friends, Debbie Noftz and Marlene Spring

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Andrews; and step daughter, Krista Brooks.
