Bill was born on January 6, 1953 in Gary, Indiana, but spent his childhood in Boardman, Ohio. He attended Canfield High School, where he wrestled and played football and basketball. In addition, he was a member of the Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. After high school, he attended Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio where he was a member of the Sigma Delta Phi fraternity and played football, graduating in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a minor in history.

In 1979 Bill met Mary Weidner. The couple would marry in 1980 and settle in Gahanna, Ohio.

A hard worker, Bill began his working career as a sales representative for Liquid Carbonic Corporation. From 1977 to 2003, Bill worked his way up at the Capital Resin Corporation: first as a sales and services representative, then plant manager, general manager, and Vice President. He then spent more than a decade as a sales manager at Refcotec, Inc. in Orrville, Ohio before retiring in August 2017.

Bill led an active life with his family and was an avid golfer, cyclist, sailor, soccer coach, and boater. A man with deep connections to his local community, Bill throughout his life served as a leader in local faith, sports, and civic institutions. He was a deacon and trustee of Mifflin Presbyterian Church in Gahanna, Ohio; a board member of the Gahanna Soccer Association; representative and treasurer of the Mid-Ohio Select Soccer League; and Vice President of Competition and Conduct for the Licensed U.S. Soccer Federation. He later served on the boards of the Cranberry Bay Homeowners Association and Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association, and was a member and governor of the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club.

Bill combined a razor sharp sense of humor with immense generosity to those around him. He  will be remembered for the life-long friendships he formed, and for his ability to make people he had just met feel like life-long friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Harriet F. Muryn and father Stephen Muryn. He is survived by his wife Mary, his brother and sister-in-law Steve and Anne, son and daughter-in-law Chris and Lesley, and daughter and son-in-law Nicole and Scott Clement.
