Helen Gibbons of St. Louisville, June 9, 1930 – June 8, 2019

Helen E. Gibbons, 88, a long-time resident of St. Louisville, passed away peacefully on June 8th, 2019 at The Laurels Nursing Home in Heath, Ohio after a short illness.

She was born June 9, 1930, in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Steven I. Uzunoff and Theresa (Kissel) Uzunoff.

Helen and her late husband, Arnold S. Gibbons, owned and operated two successful businesses; Arnold Gibbons Service out of their home, and The Little Ranch Steak House and Bar on 11th and Main in Newark. Three years after Arnold’s passing, at age 70, she opened up Helen’s Family Restaurant on Mt. Vernon Rd. offering home cooking and daily specials. She managed to keep it open for eleven years until the poor economy in Newark forced her to close its doors.

Helen was an avid fan of OSU college football and a staunch advocate of spaying and neutering pets. She worked with local agencies to cut down the population of feral cats and often donated her own money to pay vet and food bills.

Helen is survived by her devoted friend and caregiver Barry K. Trout of Newark, two sons; Bruce K. (Pamela) Beam of Mansfield, and Richard K. (Laurie) Beam of Northport, Florida; one daughter, Marcia L. Scott of Laughlin, NV; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and her beloved cats, Peanut and Woody.

Besides her parents and husband, Arnold, Helen was preceded in death by three brothers, four sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

At Helen’s request there will be no memorial service but if you wish to remember her in a kind way please make a donation to your favorite local animal shelter or pet agency.
