Phillip Edward Thornton
A gathering of family and friends for Phillip Edward Thornton, 87, of Newark, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark, where military honors will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Phillip passed away August 5, 2019, at Arlington Care Center. He was born July 19, 1932, in Frankfort, Indiana, to the late Charles A. and Gertrude (McKenery) Thornton.
Phillip proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he played trombone in the US 2nd Army band. He retired from Rockwell. He was as a member of the Christian Life Center Church and played trombone in the church orchestra. He was an avid golfer, hard worker, and loved to sing.
He is survived by his step-daughter, Cindy Mitchell of Heath; step-granddaughter, Brittani Hill of Heath; step-great-grandchildren, Aryauna Mitchell, Hayden Gibson, Kameron Hill, and Brock Hill; girlfriend, Mari Jean Cannaley and her son, Richard (Michelle) Cruse; special friend, Tim Ghiloni, and good friends, Chris Hartley, Steve Wickline, and Jim Haff.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Mahala Mitchell, and son-in-law, Kameron Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Christian Life Center Youth Department.
